Maria Kruper Letters, 1947 - 1948
Scope and Contents
The collection contains two letters (one in German and one in English) from Maria Kruper of Muster, Westphalia, Germany (in the British Zone) to relatives (family Herm. Kreienbrink) in Louisville, Kentucky. She explains that she "accidentally found" her uncle's address, but said that she hoped to hear from them occasionally. She goes on to explain that both her parents had been killed by an air raid in 1940 and that in 1944 she lost her own lodgings. From that time on, she lived with her sister. By 1948, she was married but had no children and still lived with her sister, who was also married with two children (there is no mention of either husband). She ends saying that "at present nobdy envies us in Germany for conditions are very bad over here, especially because we are unable to buy anything. In spite of it we hope that conditions will improve." (There is no translation available at this time for the letter in German.)
