General note

On bottom: St. Michael's Church, Charleston, South Carolina. On back: Parish of St. Michael. Established June 14, AD 1751. This building begun in 1752. Opened for divine worship Feb. 1st 1761. Exposed to the fire at British Artillery on James Island in 1780. Struck four times by the Federal Artillery on Morris Island, 1863 to 1865. Seriously injured by cyclone august 25, 1885. Almost destroyed by earthquake August 31st. 1886. Has been restored by the generosity of American churchman and friends, and re-opened by June 19th, 1887. Gloria in Excelcis deo. for sale by Chas. N.
